Someone filmed and uploaded some fabulous footage of wildlife in action at a national park in South Africa. In the 8 minute clip, a pride of lions attack a herd of buffalo and captured a calf. A crocadile then attempts to take the calf from the lions, but the lions manage to hang onto it. Then the herd of buffalo return and, amazingly, save the calf who seemingly rises from the dead to return to the herd. My heart pounds just watching it -- can't imagine what it must've been like in person!

Re: Battle at Kruger National Park
Wed, June 13, 2007 - 6:29 AMThe clip is really awesome.
I have been going to the Kruger Park every year for the last 30 years ( it is a wonderful place to get close to nature), and I have never seen anything like the clip.
I also like the message (from the buffalo), - by standing together shoulder to shoulder you can overcome lots of dangers. -

You’ve Seen the YouTube Video; Now Try the Documentary
Fri, May 9, 2008 - 9:48 PMOnly after “Battle of Kruger” — an eight-minute African safari video — became one of the most popular videos in YouTube’s history did the buyers come calling.

Mon, May 19, 2008 - 2:05 PMAn amazing park.. I wonder if these buffalo are the only group exhibiting such behavior, or if they do this outside of capitivity -

Tue, May 20, 2008 - 8:02 AMKruger is the world's largest wildlife park - about half the size of Portugal - so it is not really captivity.
Buffalo normally stick together when there is danger, but I have never seen them attack lions like this. I have been to Kruger more than 30 times - it is a great place to go. -

Re: You’ve Seen the YouTube Video; Now Try the Documentary
Tue, May 20, 2008 - 8:47 PMToday I was out in the field with my cattle. One of the calves got separated from the rest of the herd by a fence. I threw a rope around it to lead it around to the gate so it could rejoin its mother. The calf didn't like any part of it, and put up quite a cry, (the calves generally need to get older before they trust friendly humans). As soon as the calf started its cry, the whole herd jumped up from their resting, and came running. It was almost exciting for me. You never know with cattle just how protective they might be. One of my neighbors was almost killed when she got between a cow and it's calf. ...She was in the hospital for a good while.

Sat, June 7, 2008 - 1:50 PMCape buffalo are often claimed to be some of africa's most dangerous creatures because a) they are strong individually, b) they often work as a group, c) they are not afraid of much, d) they are easily aggravated to be aggressive.
I know when I saw them on foot in Tanzania, I was glad to have an Askari (guard) with me! Yipes!
