Re: Sign UK government Bee Death petition to stop the killing of honey bees with 'nerve gas' pesticide
Sat, July 18, 2009 - 2:14 PMI wondered what was causing the problem with the bees.
I saw one the other week in the garden and it was a surprise. it shouldn't be a surprise to see a bee. -

Re: Sign UK government Bee Death petition to stop the killing of honey bees with 'nerve gas' pesticide
Sun, July 19, 2009 - 7:31 AMThere are a number of problems with honey bees. They have been over bred, for one thing, and thought they produce much honey, they now have more problems dealing with fungus and parasites. The best guess for what threw a lot of hives over into collapse i think is this:
www.sciencedaily.com/release...0803.htm
In North America, they are not natives, and are replaced by the thousands of our native bee species, some of which are much more efficient at pollination than the honey bees, are cooler looking and do not sting.

Re: Sign UK government Bee Death petition to stop the killing of honey bees with 'nerve gas' pesticide
Sun, July 19, 2009 - 7:52 AMis sit and watch this with the oddest feelings?
wil hits the nail on the head with breeding. same thing is happening with many earth systems. we are creating a global imbalance plain and simple. anyone who walks on two feet should be able to intuitively grasp the importance of balance. We have done exactly what we have done to the bees with pretty much any organic structure we touch - kind of like a midus touch only everything we humans touch turns to shit instead of gold. the earth has a capacity for self healing but i do not think that this is unlimited. Let's just say that global warming and other more sexy science issues are almost beside the point when compared to this kind of thing.

Re: Sign UK government Bee Death petition to stop the killing of honey bees with 'nerve gas' pesticide
Sun, July 19, 2009 - 6:21 AMAnd then there's the scandal of the BBKA endorsing the use of Bayer pesticides and other chemicals because of sponsorship by Bayer. The scandal is discussed by a number of people here:
www.britishbeekeeping.com/
Bayer are international corporate criminals who are guilty of mass poisoning (amongst other crimes). That the BBKA in any way supports them (for a measly £20,000) is a disgrace.
Yes, some members are right. There ought to be another Bee Keepers association which bans the use of agro-chemicals and campaigns for the abolition of all chemical use in farming!
The real scandal is also in the UK government with its secret trials of GMOs around the country and the continued use of dangerous agro-chemicals. For example, the continued lie about Glyophosate being neutralised on contact with soil and therefore harmless is proven false, and yet the sale of herbicides with Glyphosate in continues. Appealing to the likes of Brown and his friends to do anything about chemical use in this country is like petitioning MacDonalds to stop selling meat! -
