You're quite right that the Sun is changing, "evolving" in the astrophysical sense. In about half a billion years, its output will inrease to the point where the Earth will not remain habitable without some serious terraforming work (*); in about five billion years it will leave the main sequence entirely, swell up into a red giant, engulfing and vaporizing the Earth in the process.

Smaller changes may be expected over the timescales of human history so far. Some may have contributed to the end of the Ice Age, others to the current problem of CO2-influenced global warming (**)

I wouldn't put much credence in ancient Mayan prophecies, but it _is_ interesting that they point to some sort of crisis in the 21st century, which will probably be the century during which _maximum_ human-caused ecological damage is reached and then the process begins reversing as we adopt cleaner technologies.

Sadly, I don't think that our psychic state has much effect on super-volcanic eruptions. The mechanisms that power "hot spots" (which is what causes super-volcanoes) seem to involve concentrations of U-238 in the Earth's core, which cause local "meltdowns" (****) of parts of the giant nuclear reactor that powers our tectonic processes, which in turn cause the hot spots and thermal plumes which can produce super-volcanic eruptions.

The process which has produced Yellowstone is older by millions of years than our own species -- when it started, our ancestors were forest apes in Africa, and said ancestors were also the common ancestors of bonobos, chimps, gorillas and orangs. And I have no idea as to what _their_ psychic state happened to be, though let's hope that, like Koko, it was mostly a happy twirly (***) one :)

(**) "Problem" from our point of view. From the POV of other Earthlife, it may be just peachy-keen in the long run. Periods of high average temperatures have been very productive of biodiversity in the past.

(***) "Meltdowns" in quotes because the whole thing is actually a metallic fluid, operating at temperatures and pressures which no fission reactor we can yet construct could withstand for a second. What actually happens is that the temperature exceeds the pressure locally and so you get a thermal expansion, a sort of pulse of heat that eventually reaches the surface, causing a "thermal plume" like the one that formed the Hawaiian Islands. "Eventually," in geological terms, can mean "many millions of years."

(****) It's been observed that happy young gorillas tend to enjoy sitting on their butts and twirling around. Why they do this is not certain, but they probably derive the same "whee!" sensation that we do under similar circumstances. Koko was reportedly prone to do this as a child.
